Gold EIZZ Teflon XLR for DIY AES/EBU digital cable builds.

First of all, I must correct my statement that ChrisVH prefers rhodium Furutech XLR connectors for terminating the V-Twist when implemented as an AES/EBU digital cable. It was a misunderstanding on my part, and I apologize for the misinformation. In fact, the Furutech FP-601M(G) and FP-602F(G) Gold XLR connectors are his preferred models for a balanced V-Twist AES/EBU digital cable application.

Taking that into consideration, I decided to re-terminate a set-screw terminated DIY V-Twist AES/EBU digital cable with gold EIZZ XLR connectors, and instead direct-solder the conductors to the termination slots as I did with the platinum EIZZ Teflon XLRs. The sonic result is similar to that of the 24 AWG V-twist when terminated with direct-soldered platinum EIZZ Teflon XLRs, but with a slightly laid back if not warmer sounding sonic signature that provides a different flavor to choose from as compared to the somewhat more assertive and not as warm-sounding platinum EIZZ XLRs. So the 24 AWG V-Twist cable sounds better to my ear when soldered vs. a set-screw method no matter what plating is involved.

These findings bring into question the possible benefit of re-terminating my DIY VH Audio 21 AWG OCC copper with AirLok dielectric twisted pair AES/EBU digital cables with set-screw terminated EIZZ XLR connectors, and instead experiment by direct-soldering the conductors as I did with the 24 AWG V-Twist cable. However, the larger 21 AWG solid core wire when doubled into the termination slot provides an 18 AWG aggregate gauge, which fits very firmly into the termination slot, with plenty of surface area for good signal transfer. Since I can't undo the modification, it will take more thought about the matter before I take a plunge to find-out what that modification might produce. I've been very pleased with that design option as it is, so I'll likely leave them as they are for the time being.
