I've just got around to making a pair of interconnects using Chris VenHaus's design - two thin silver wires spiralled around a Teflon tube and wrapped in PTFE tape (the gas version is thicker and easier to work with than the plumbers' tape). I'm using it between my pre and power amps (AI Mod3A and Atma-Sphere M60s) and I prefer it to the cable I've been using for the last 6 months - a fairly expensive and well-reviewed silver cable from Denmark. The bass is as solid as before, the mids are slightly more transparent, and the highs are a revelation.
I paid $400 for the old cable after comparisons with a number of alternatives. The most expensive part of the new DIY one was the phono plugs (not counting the four hours it took me to make it).
Thanks Chris! I'll be cabling my whole system with this stuff, and my friends' Christmas presents are sorted out.
