I was actually looking for something to do the same. Is the PS-1 appropriate in this type of application?

To answer your question, yes the PS1 can replace a wall wort. The PS1 is a split supply, that is - it provides a positive and negative voltage, ex. +16V, -16V and ground. You can setup the supply to provide just +16V but you would only be utlizing half of the power supply.
As for using other caps and diodes, yes this fine if you can make them fit.
I am working on a few new voltage regulator designs which I hope to have available this Summer. These will be single supplies.
Thanks. I appreciate your input. Are the new voltage regulator designs the you are working on being single supplies more appropriate to my intended use? Should I wait until they are ready?

If you only need a single supply, then yes they would be more appropriate.Should you wait? If you can hold on for a few more months we'll have somethin.
