Hello all,1. Will the SS rectification short tube life?
2. Ron said that with the SS rectification the transformer will run cooler, will this influence the life of the transformer?
SS rectification may shorten tube life however in my opinion it is not a substantial loss. The power transformer will run quite a bit cooler if the rectifier tube filament current is not being pulled through it. Yes, this should extend the life of the transformer to some degree. It is a well made transformer though and even with the filament current in use, should out live us both.
If anyone is concerned about this how about simply adding a B+ switch to operate 15 secs after the main power switch? Wouldn't any concerns about rapid B+ ramp-up be removed?

Yes, this is an option as long as an appropriately rated switch/contacts is used....500V minimum.
