I have been using the Sophia 274b non-mesh in mine for over 8 months with no mods and no problems, they replaced mullard gz-37's, 5ar4's, 5u4g's and just about every other type of rectifier I could try. You will not believe the difference. More open, better extension top and bottom with better bass control and tonality. I believe the mesh 274b's run at a different operating point???? if you end up trying them let me know how they work out. good luck

  Most 274s have a 4A filament requirement. The Moondog's filament tap is rated at 3A so I could not recommend that you use this tube.

    I don't remember the exact price I paid for the solid plates, just that it was considerably cheaper than the projected price(at the time) than the mesh plates. I have been using AVVT Mesh 2a3's for the last year and a half and it sounds amazing. Several people have said use of the 274b may/will shorten tube life in comparison to a gz37, as of right now I think the sound is worth it if such is the case. YMMV.
