I just picked up a pair of Soliloquy SM2A3 speakers for a second system that I am assembling in a room 12x15x8. I understand that these were "designed" for the Cary 2A3 amp and have a sensitivity of 91 db and impedence of 10 ohms. I am giving serious consideration to the new Wellborne DRD amplifier, but I have not listened to a SET amp before so I cannot say if I would prefer 300B or 2A3. So, I guess my question would be, which amplifier would squeeze the most music from these speakers?

I have the same model Soliloquy speakers, and find an 845 amp works well with them. Maybe Ron will build an 845 DRD amp for us!The speakers have limited power handling ability (25 watts) but aren't that efficient. They are also a bit bright, so an 845 amp or other "high-powered" SET should be a good match. Depends on your room and listening preferences.

I would think even a 300B is marginal with 91 db speakers. I have 96 db speakers, and way modded Ultimate Laurels (300Bs). At that, I want more. Not so much for over all loudness (which is plenty), but for micro-dynamics.
Thanks for your reply, twystd. Even though these speakers are made for the Cary 2A3 amplifier, I was also concerned about not getting the dynamics. I noticed Ron Welborne suggested the DRD 2A3 for "horns" but that the DRD 300B would suffice for medium efficient 90 db speakers. My ignorance on the correlation of efficiency and impedence in the 10 ohm range is another reason why I posed my question.

The DRD 300B would be your best bet with these speakers.
