The Ortofon 540MKII is taking to this little Denon DP-300F turntable very nicely. Compared to the stock Denon DN-85 conical stylus MM cart the table came with, well, there's no comparison, nor should there be, really.
Bass is more articulate and resonant and not flabby like the stock cart. Highs are extended rather than rolled off and the soundstage is both wider and deeper.
And I'm loving the auto functions of this deck!
I'm sure a more reasonably priced MM, such as the AT-440MLa or AT-120E also would sing in this table.

Good to know.I have an AT12SA on my DP-300F and am considering upgrading to the Orto 540 Mk II. How is Tonearm Height? With the AT, I can play 200g vinyl and the arm and cartridge are lavel to the record...
Please advise...
The arm is parallel to the LP surface, as is the cart body, neither tail up nor tail down.

Nice.I have had problems with an extended top end cart on my more modest rig, which is why I went with the Shure M97xE.
The Super OM-10, while nice was obviously not the best fit for that reason alone.
I don't find the highs rolled off on the Shure infact, they are there, just not in your face like the OM-10 was doing.
I'm am actually obtaining some additional detail now with the Shure despite the Ortofon giving me plenty of detail in and of itself which blew away any previous, albeit cheap cartridges by a mile or two.
them to be a bit too "polite" or "reserved." They just didn't move me. I feel the AT-120E is a much more involving cartridge for about the same price.

I've been told that too but thankfully that was not the case in my situation and I really do believe it's table dependent on whether it swings or doesn't.I'm convinced that a particular cart's "voicing" has to match the table's "voicing". If the table is on the reserved side, yeah, I can see where the Shure can be uninvolving but since my table is anything but reserved, it so far appears to be what it needs.
Mind you, I play a plethera of stuff of various genres and vintages so I needed something that'll straddle them all at least decently.
