I agree with your comments about the nastiness here. I think we should all just let someone elses opinion slide a bit more. We can discuss things without contempt and tantrums. As for upgrading tubes, you have something special in the near future.... The Mullards take a good 100 hours to break in. The sound of the EH's break in about 25 hours.
I would just leave the thing on and idling for 4 days. That should cook the tubes just about perfect.

Hey,Actually I was in the leave-it-on camp. Once burnt-in, what do you think will be the typical (from cold, that is) warm-up time for optimum (or at least reasonably good) sound? I honestly don't know because ever since I've had this preamp, it's been cookin' 24/7 (except for tube changes!).
I just spin one album to get the tubes toasty and then listen seriously to the next album. I do not think it is wise to leave a tube preamp cooking 24/7.YMMV but most low output preamp tubes will last between 10k and 70k hours. At 24 hours a day that is just 13 months to 91 months depending upon the tube. You will get 10 years or more by just turning the thing off when you are not listening.
Have you had the power supply caps exchanged? I think leaving this thing on could really toast these critters. I would replace these every 7-15 years if I leave the preamp on all the time.
Hi,Thanks. I hadn't considered that, but we do have a local shop that sort of specializes in C-J repairs/mods/upgrades (Music Technologies in Springfield, VA). Maybe I'll have 'em check it out, but for now sounding SWEET!
