I am thinking of replacing C8 and C9 in my EAR 834P with Nippon Chemi-Cons as suggested by Thorsten in his mod.-guide
Could anyone please elaborate on the sound quality of these caps ?
How do they compare to Elna Cerafines or Black Gates ?
Follow Ups:
Cerafines are probably the best power supply caps you can use, but I believe Thorsten was also being practical in that he recommended the Chemi-Cons because they fit in the chassis and sounded very good.FWIW, in my opinion you won't hear the diff between a Cerafine and the Chemi-Cons unless you've done most of the other mods first (coupling caps, etc). It's a matter of diminishing returns.
Good luck,
Do you know which Chemi-Con. model would be good for C8/C9 ? The VX series that Thorsten suggests (100uF/385V) is not produced any more.
I could get Cerafine 220uF+220uF/350VDC but its very big... Would 47uF/500VDC do as well ?
selling capacitors in the world, they have their good and better. I would guess that they have 30% of the switching power supply market locked up, if my experience working for the power supply co. Nidec was any indication.
Since their high performance, low impedance caps are not marketed to audio companies, you'll have to scan their data sheets to find their diamonds in the rough."If you can hear it, it's real".
I have used these in the power supply for a ska amp;Nippon c.c. series kmh 6800uf 63 volt, and filter caps in a phono pre, kmh 10,000uf 50v.You can get the smaller value electro in the lxz series which I used and produced very good sonics. Not only that but they are priced right.Digikey is fast, they mark on the product bag the country of origin. The larger kmh came from the USA and the lxz from Japan.
