I am nearing completion on my first idler project, a Lenco L75, and I thought I would share a picture. My first attempt to post a picture, let's see if I got it right. Success! Kim
Follow Ups:
Very cool
it looks like ti ways 150lbs.
the stand must be gigantic!
Nah, that stool only weighs a few pounds. Kim
do you have to lower it by chain/winch??
nt
What species of wood did you use? Also, is there any CLD on the inside, or just open like my Plinth 3 project? I used sand in zip lock bags to add mass until the bass took on the right depth.
Now that you've seen this masterpiece, are you planning a rev 4 or 5 plinth project? Sorry, can't keep up with the revisions but I do enjoy the reading.
I just bought 85 bucks of quilted maple for it this morning. I think this belt drive will be a skeletal design with an outboard motor.I am congealing ideas on the table as I type. I came in for overtime today and it is extremely slow. Gives me lots of time to plan some fun stuff!
Every plinth has been different so I can hear changes to the design and optimize the platform to my tweaking obcession.
The idlers have been a blast this summer!
That is a real eye catcher. I seriously think it should be in the next CES show. Great job!!
Beautiful plinth! I have a Lenco with a Pro-Ject arm & a Shure cartridge in it. Yours looks much like the same configuration. Is that what it is?
Beautiful job on the plinth!

What a gorgeous plinth! Can you share some details? What's the name of the arm and the cartridge?
"The torture never stops"
OK Some Details25 7/8" long, 20 15/16" wide, 7 3/4" deep. 93 pounds. Solid Bubinga trim, quilted waterfall Bubinga veneer on sides and top. Multi coats of hand rubbed tung oil ( had to have this finish after seeing 4yanks cocobolo beauty ). Sumiko Premier FT-3 tonearm with PIB-1 interface box on the rear panel, I had to make a hole in the top plate for the Sumiko fit properly. Presently I have an old Shure M91ED mounted for the tweaking runs and will either put on a new Shure M97xE or a Shure M95ED, though the M91ED sounds pretty good on this table. Plinth is alternating layers of 3/4"MDF and 3/4"Baltic Birch plywood, pan sits directly on top layer of BB and is screwed on. I also have the four bolts on the top plate bolted through the plinth. I took apart the motor and lubed the bearings, lubed the idler wheel bearing, cleaned and lubed the spindle bearing. Replaced the idler spring with elastic, polished and sprayed the platter rim. The 3 feet are just large round headed bolts for leveling, they seem to work well. That's all I can think of for now. Kim
Nice work!
Thanks. It was a lot of work, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without the inspiration from people like you, 4yanks,Jean N, FredJ, Oregon, and many others I can't think of at the moment. My hat is off to you. Tahnks to you all. Kim
Kim,I appreciate it, although you haven't even seen a turntable from me, yet. I will give one piece of advice, however. Stick with wood because piano black is next to impossible.
I like how you paid attention to the little things. Small details make all the difference in the world, don't they? They also take lots of time.
Hi, Win...how's the day?Taht 'table is absolutely gorgeous though...I get so damned jealous when I see those wooden thangs! And those thangs have 'tables attached and make music! I'll be hornswoggled!
I am quivering with excitement, hanging on tenterhooks, slobbering like an idiot, waiting to see pictures of your "endless" project!
If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!
I put 20 bucks on my man Mosin. JD will analyze his table to death and beyond.Cheers and where is the full report on the Monkeyspankers album?
Don't hold your breath for either of us. We are methodical, but slow isn't the word. I am seeing daily progress, however.
Or send me a ticket and I will help you get it ready for its debut.....
