I measured a MFSL 200gm to be 2.03mm thick
A 180gm is 1.90mm
A 120gm is 1.72mm
And a "normal" LP ranges from 1.54 to 1.65, perhaps someone has "official" numbers.Anyway going from the "worst case" situation from a 1.54mm to the 2.03mm 200gm the change in VTA is 0.1225 degrees.
Going from a more normal thickness "normal LP" of 1.65mm to a 180gm (1.90mm) the VTA change is 0.0625 degrees. Changing to a 120gm is a VTA change of 0.0175 degrees.
The resulting SRA changes are probably less than that due to ambient temperature changes.
I don't think the DL-103 "magic" has anything to do with the stylus shape.

Don't you mean the fact that the conical stylus may have less/no sra problems has nothing to do with the DL 103 magic? Surely the stylus shape has something to do with the DL 103 magic?
Just wondering ...
Regards
I have DL-103 with conical, elliptical and Shibata styli. The "magic" has nothing to do with the fact the original has a conical stylus.
But yes, they do sound better with a stylus and better with a better stylus. :-)
Garth I love you....You get to the absolute absurdity of our hobby.
where's the magic in that?
I am so glad you are a distinguished member of our asylum ;-)Hope you enjoy the 103R! I do! And yes it does have a stylus!
I got the package today but I also brought home the Thorens DT 111 and an opamp came in from another inmate so it is like xmas around here.
You sure have a way of putting things in perspective.
