Hiya guysI am using a SME 20.2 with model V arm and Hovland music groove 2 arm cable. The cartridge i was using was s VanDenHul "black Beauty". It is a good catridge but made everuthing sound like a cd,squeeky clean but lifeless.A few months ago,i bought a limited edition Koetsu Urushi "Sky Blue".Now,that is a hell-of-a-cartridge except in one area,Highs.Maybe i should play a little bit more with VTA and tracking weight, maybe it's just my imagination, who knows.Anyway, what i would like to know,is there any other cartridge that would give me the lushness of the urushi with the VDH's highs? A Lyra Titan Perhaps or maybe a Koetsu Red signature platinum? Any other suggestions ?
p.s. phono stage is E.A.R. 324.Also,please,do not recommend anything more expensive than a Red signature platinum.I want to sit back and enjoy music, not to count the time for the next retip lol

If I remember rightly.. Koetsu's are best in the low thousands, not 100 ohm. That will have a big effect on the highs.. you may be dampening it down to much.
Hi DanielUnfortunately,if i remember well, the e.a.r. 324 has a fixed loading for moving coils at 47k.Can't experiment with different loading.

Maybe it's due to my age, but I hear no problems with the high frequency extension of my Urushi Wajima in a Wheaton Triplanar tonearm mounted on a Nottingham Analogue Hyperspace and feeding an Atma-sphere MP1 in balanced mode. By all means, let it break in a bit and also play with VTA before you give up on the Urushi. For a reference, I previously owned a Transfiguration Esprit, which is considered a pretty neutral sounding cartridge, and I would say the treble extension of the Urushi is at least its equal or better.
Hello Lew and thanks for replying.BTW,excellent system you got there.
You are right about your comments.I want to consider myself a music lover than audiophile and sometimes i forget the basic rules.Let new equipment to break in ! lol Your comments reminded me how much i got excited when i first heard the urushi in my system and since more-or-less the break-in period, especially for phono cartridges, is like a curve (brand new sounding full and overblown, begining of the curve, then after a few days sounding closed-in,curve's peak (this is where i am now i quess),and then after several hours of playing everything opens up,end of the curve).Come to think of it,it did sound extended when i first installed her.Anyway, thanks again and i will give her some time to break-in.Then i will "play" with the vta and see the results. Thank you !
if you wish to stay with koetsu i think you will have to get a platinum model if you want the added extension, rumored to be better in both extremes.
the benz lp is also a very nice warm, natural sounding cart, I have heard some say they would take it over a zyx universe. System and tastes also determine what you will ultimately find to be the best for you.
As far as the urushi, maybe raise your vta a little, and lighten up on the tracking force a little as well. That might get you right where you want to be.
I think a lyra will be more similar to your VDH.
