In Reply to: My Shure V15 was Ok, but the open bodied Benz MC has a LOT... posted by NewStevo on September 14, 2006 at 21:33:44:
the the SFG-2 that you have is more sensitive to magnets than is my example. All of the MC carts that I have show very strong magnetic pull when items such as screw drivers come into proximity. Scary the first time because there is a real danger of destroying the cartridge with that much pull. And yet these same cartridges have no problem with my particular SFG-2. Your scale must be more susceptible to magnetic pull than is mine. Perhaps different steel alloys.
Follow Ups:
Early SFG-2s were magnetic. Later SFG-2s are not. Simple as that.
"Early SFG-2s were magnetic. Later SFG-2s are not. Simple as that."Anyone reading this thread should be able to reach that conclusion.
hhh
I have that very guage which I got oh, 5 years ago or so. So far I've used it and it works well and is not affected by the carts I've used on it.The Ort Super OM-10 and just the other day, a Shure M97xE
But as others have said, MC's may be more succeptable to it than MM's, such as both of my carts.
I'm sure it's still magnetic, but uses an alloy that does not interfere much, if at all with any cart used with it.
