...also, I think most carts that arent DJ models will be less able to withstand physical abuse, but will have much better to vastly better freq. range, channel seperation and tracking. THey key is to suggest one that is VERY dynamic. All the other sonic improvements will be cing on the cake, as they say.So gang, whats a VERY dynamic MM cart for Doggie here..?
p.s./// If you built a Bugle it probably is able to be configured for less then the 40 db gain, if you really like that DJ cart.

Well I tried cheap ortofon on a rega p3, a dynavector on a vpi scout and I end up using the td-160. But this new phono stage is very revealing. It is a very new descrete design by carlosfm, difhifi.org, if you search for "duplex phono ",it will come up. jfet 2sk369, tranistor 2n1711. I sourced most parts from digikey, cost about $250. in parts, 24V [2x12v 7amp sla batteries in series].
Looked at your thread there. Seems like a real nice amp, and you did a beautiful construction job. I'm sure you're very pleased.I gotta repeat what one of your friends there said, "buy a nicer cart." The output will be normal (4 to 6 mv) and work fine for the gain you have, and will be a better tracker. You might be experiencing sibilance on those loud passages, not amp clipping.
When guys here on the VA talk about a cart being a 'good tracker' they mostly mean it will handle dynamic passages without sounding 'sibilant' due to mistracking. high pitched Female vocals and trumpets can be the worst.
Decide what your budget might be for a cart, then start a new thread telling us what you have and what kinda music you like and ask for cart recommendations.
