the Scoutmaster with a Wright PP 200. It will outperform the ear from what I have heard. I've seen the SM go for $1900 on Agon and the Wright is $850.
BTW, I ran my MMF-7 through the Wright with very good results. The SM is a better table, but at twice the cost. IMO, your weak spot now is your phono preamp. You'd be surprised how much difference a good phono pre makes. It is often overlooked in importance

That is a very appealing option. Thanks! Do you think the MMF-7 with the Wright would hold a candle to the Scout (about $2k and EAR combo)? Sure would save me a lot of cash.
Just bought the wright about a month ago.Truly excellent in every
way.You won"t be sorry if you buy this phono pre and a good cartridge.
I don't own either, but have spent some time listening to both
over the years, 2 different dealer friends are long time dealers
the MMF 7 is an under-rated TT, as is it's Project arm, neither Project nor Music Hall do even an adequate job of marketing, the Scout is a very nice table the arm is as well, the actual sonic differences would IMHO be eaten up between Cartridge choices how compatible (Cart. / Arm) how well SET up, the time and care involved in siting the tables etc. It would all come down to personal preference, taste and system and room synergy.I agree with Artemus completely on both counts, a good Stage can make an astounding ( meaningful) difference, the Wright is a excellent value
