No matter what the style of music is... They ALWAYS seem to have been handled like crap!
Just like anything free, a concert for instance: ever noticed how the public for those DON'T applaud, no matter how fabulous the musicians are?
...If you pay, then it's GOTTA be good you see?
Follow Ups:
Here in Holland actually it's not so bad, i have lots of used library records especially classical, i guess they were not loaned out a lot, most of them come in the correct type of inner sleeves so most of them are in good condition. I remember from way back in the 80s the guy behind the counter of the record library was not at all impressed by my Pioneer Pl-12D with Shure M75 cart, i had to promise to be careful with the records. And believe me he checked that every time i brought back the records! Every scratch added would cost you money and repeated offenses could get you kicked out permanently!

console stereo. To check LPs out of the Audiophile section which was in a large special room. You had to list your turntable and cartridge and tracking weight that could be no more than 2 grams. You inspected the LP when you checked it out and the librarian of the audiophile section checked it in. If you scratched or damaged the LP you paid and then it was moved to the general section. You could check out up to 3 LPs at a time.
They had about 2,000 totally mint LPs in the audiophile section room and this is where I discovered many great LPs such as harmonia mundi's "Dance Music from Hungary and Transylvania" and "Tarentule-Tarentelle" as well as many London LPs such as "The Fantasy Film World of Bernard Herrmann" and even imports such as EMI and others.
Well this guy was pissed that all he could get is the 10,000 scratched up LPs in the general section, they told him all he had to do was buy a good turntable which were available for as little as $100.00. He refused and sued, the library lost and the court ruled they could not hold people accountable for the condition of LPs or restrict based on equipment owned. He ruined a great thing as all of these great LPs were soon just as scratched up as of the other 10,000. He is what I would call a ROYAL JERK ruining a great thing for the rest of the city.

Many a friend has asked to borrow records, thinking I am kind of like a library. The answer has always been no, absolute no way no how.
At the library, I don't even bother looking through their CD collection (which is huge!) anymore... Loaning CDs makes perfect sense though, But every time I pick up one and consider taking it home, it's crappy! When I used to take those chances, each time I had to stress to the clerk that there were scratches before leaving. Then once I got a Rolling Stones one (SACD hybrid high-class) that actually SKIPPED repeatedly - had never even seen this in over 20 years of buying used CDs - well that was it!!
Beatles, Dylan, Classical, Jazz... thousands of historicaly important original LPs. MINT!! a collectors dream, set to loan out to the destroyers!!
...then paid for at the original price? Or worse, replaced in their jackets with the borrower's original, trashed copy? Just some nasty thoughts.
