Everybody says Rega sucks but then lauds the same arm coming from this table. What I think causes THE major change in sound for a Rega P2/3 is the Tonearm base-nut tension. The stock tightness specs for this from Rega are so obviously WRONG it is surprising it has not been discussed more.I will not listen until this is right.A Rega arm HAS to be at about finger-tight tension or it will not play bass correctly. The Origin Live view and instructions by Mark Baker are correct.http://www.tonearm.co.uk/tonearm-information.htm look at the setting-up Tonearm section. As a Caveat I compare a Rega modded P2 to a Lenco GL75 regularly and it is NOT far off.

Aquarium: Thanks, the arm nut tightening tip was helpful! Im gonna try that.
finger tight and you can hear the difference. The sound actually gets less bright or brittle or tense and the mids open up. Bass has to be worked on some more by way of counterweight upgrade and better feet or isolation.this stuff should be part of the NAD/P2 FAQ. Loosening that nut costs nothing and does make a difference.
I tried that. Problem--the tonearm assembly moves out of place with the slightest bump and the whole mess has to be re-aligned.
At one point, I thought about running a set of long wood screws into the plinth on each side of the anti-skate to hold the arm in place.

Hey, Pittsburg was looking pretty good the other night, even with Batch in at QB. I think he was a good addition.ANYWAY, maybe Pete Riggle ought to make his vertical guide available separately from the VTAF. I bet he'd sell a bunch of 'em because loostening the nut does improve the sound of Rega arms. He's working on his own counterweight right now. I spoke with him a couple of week's ago. Nice guy.
yeah that needs to be a separate item. Finger tight on that gland nut and its nearly impossible to keep the tonearm in place, unless you make your own precision alignment grid and overlay it onto the plinth. It only has be a couple of milimeters off and cartridge alignment is screwed.
Don't know if you caught the pre-game stuff on the late Mayor O'Connor. Pittsburgh now has a 26-year old mayor. Could be the best thing that ever happened to that luck-forsaken city.
