I have blue "Police", original was red I quess?
Follow Ups:
Mine is Black and as Roxanne sounds awesome we can conclude that "The Black Album" as always is the band's best.

all the best,
mrh
I've seen Red, Green, and Yellow (there may also be a blue). I've heard that the colors had significance (1st, 2nd pressing, maybe), but I don't remember how. If I wasn't at work, I'd start researching it. :)
The record collection hysteria of the 1980's fed off the emergence of limited edition or alternative releases of vinyl, eg. colored vinyl, picture discs, different covers, etc. This was not an audiophile thing, it was mainly for record collecting and record companies trying to lure customers to buy more than 1 copy of a record.Um, I fell prey several times :-)

The Police album is from the late 70s however I agree with your post that it wasnt an audiophile thing. I rememebr having the choice of buying the red or yellow (don't remember other colors)when it first came out. I had the LP in red, the 8-track in yellow.
True.
It did start in the late 70's, like maybe 78 or 79.
7" and 12" 45's were also marketed this way.I have like 3 copies of a 12" Television EP called "Foxhole" (Red/Green/Yellow) that came out around the same time.
Like I said, I fell prey :-)

...of cover color combinations, too.
The gold-and-silver version (which I have) was a limited DMM pressing. If I am not mistaken, there was also a black-and-white one.The red-yellow-blue striped ones as well as the other editions differed in more than color. The band photos were a repeating strip of four or five pictures each that circled the cover. The three strips (one for each band member) did not "begin" (assuming there was a 'number one picture') in the same places on every cover. Thus, in addition to color variations, there were a significant number of variations of photo placements as well. Combined with the color possibilities, the result was a whole buncha possible covers.
