Hi allI'm looking for an ideal cartridge match for the following system.
SME V
NA SPacedeck with HD platter upgrade
QUAD II amps
QUAD ESL 57 speakers
EAR 834p phono.Budget around US$1000 max. So far Cartridge Man MM3 seems to be the best fit, but I'd welcome any suggestions.
Cheers

The SME V is square solidly set in the medium mass arena. I think a medium to low compliance cartridge would be an awesome fit. I think a high compliance like the Music Man might be dancing with the devil. My Grado Woodie at 20 Cu did not do well at all with 10.5 or 12 grams of effective mass. I had to go with a 3009 Series II Improved and Series III arm to get the proper sound quality from the Grado. Now that I have the proper match the music is a little piece of magic.
The Music Man is at least 20 CU from what I remember.
Perhaps a Dynavector 17DT would be a good match for your SME V.
I love the Quad ESL's. Excellent sound all around. Do you run a subsonic reinforcement like a REL or M&K unit? You do not know what you are missing until you can plumb 16 hz.
Hi - thanks for the reply. One of my chums suggested a Lyra but not too familiar with carts and don't to spend my hard earned on a poor choice ! Also could pick up a Koetsu Red almost within my budget. Not gone subsonic with the ESLs - top floor flat so neighbours would need replastering !
I ran a set up protocol today and the room shook pretty loud. I could not play it like this in the evening for sure. They would evict me for sure.Heck my main speakers are down just 3 db at 25 hz, so I cannot even play my main speakers above 80 db without shaking the place up.
