Ed, if you accidentally bump your table, will your arm fall off the VTAF? I've always wondered this...but I understand that the way the VTAF is "loosely coupled" to the table is one of it's advantages sound-wise.Thanks and enjoy your VTAF - Chr3is
Follow Ups:
The arm cannot leave the receiver bronze bearing. The weight of your arm which is probably 200 grams or more mass loads the coupler adjustment ring to the bronze bushing seat. The wiring from the arm to the preamp also provides retension aspects, since the weight of these connections also adds to the mass loading of the arm to the bronze bushing seat.
While the arm is not solidly bolted to the bronze seat, the overall mass loads the arm very nicely.
The picture I am posting is my VTAF configured to work with the Kenwood KD 550 arm. This is not representative of how the assembly will look with a Rega arm.
Hope this helps. Ed may have additional comments on his experience.
The arm cabling is still threaded through the plinth, and the base of the Rega still goes through the hole - it just isn't screwed down underneath. Plus there's a guide post to keep everything straight. (Check out the website.)
So unless by "bump" you mean "tip upside down and shake violently" I would say the answer is No.
