I was driving home from work the other day, and the radio station played “Sausalito Summernights” by Diesel. What a fun song, and one I hadn’t heard in quite a long time. I really enjoyed hearing it. What lost 1980s songs would you like to hear again?

My favorite band to this day. Once in a great while i'll hear something but never on a local station. Never heard a band where I liked almost every song I heard by them....but there are a couple of not-so-good ones on their "rare" cd. Their B-sides are scrumptious.
Agreed. Any of their stuff would be on my short list for the "ten albums on a desert island" thread.I've got most of their stuff on CD and MP3, but unfortunately only Vienna on vinyl...GOTTA GET MORE, PLEASE SANTA, GIVE ME MORE. :)
.
...well really the whole album kicks ass!!"Su..Su..Sushi. Sushi girl...cherry blossom...and rice..she's so nice"

. . . the whole record! And INXS - Shabooh, Shoobah, and a few others. And I was listening to hard-core traditional jazz during these days!
Especially the song "Privilege" on side 2.Gonna go throw it on now.
Not sure who did it, do you?

that decade was filled with colorful treasures, at least the first half was. The second half got a bit watered down unless you were a big fan of 'Expose'. EMF would have been a great 80's band but they were too late for new wave and too early for alt/grunge. Some of the compilation cd's have nice rare songs on them.
Dexy's Midnight Runners are underrated IMO.
.
I heard a chick version but I don't know who did it, it was back in the 80's too.
.
... my absolute favorite "rock" (pop?) Holiday song of all time and space!
Here are five of my favourites....Over the Sea - Jesse Rae
Monochromatic - Kajagoogoo
Johnny Friendly - JoBoxers
(Keep Feeling) Fascination - The Human League
Union of the Snake - Duran Duranand I'll throw Big Apple (also by Kajagoogoo) in there too.
I think I need a shower now... :D
I have saw them alive 1983, It was great gig and great experince to me. My first rock festival ever.

Ha Ha Made Ya Look!Has anybody caught the new cell phone ad where the guy is humming Karma Chameleon and his friend looks at with a disgusted look on his face and says “You’re singing Karma Chameleon aren’t you?” He denies it of course while keeping the tune to a rap song (Where da hood at) It’s a crack up!

Yup..seen it and it is funny. My 80's GF was into Boy George and me at the time was into heavy metal! Imagine that musical gamut in the house at that time??!!
Boy george...Judas Priest....Bon Jovi.....Accept.....
Musical merry-go-round!!

The Kings (from Are Here) - This Beat Goes On / Switchin' To Glide
I have always liked that one.
Pet Shop Boys, titled "West End Girls".

Life at the outpost - skatt brothers
A couple of years back I bought cheap a mintish CND copy of "Folks of the 80s" for the novelty aspect and the freshness of the copy, and actually found I enjoyed the music to the point of making it a keeper! Some of those 80s synth sounds are pretty hideous, but lots of other things in there are quite progressive and moving... Great music, and I love that guy-what's-his-name's voice!
Their first album is one of my favorite records. That album was trashed as a flash-in-the-pan effort in Rolling Stone mag when it first came out, but it grew on me immediately. What do they know anyways...
Is Pop Go the World (with Ian Anderson on one track) very good also?
I gave up after hearing the title song, haven't heard the rest of the album. Been a long time, I should give it another listen(I don't have it though)

Great Song.
My vinyl isn't the best recording in my collection, but that is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time. Wasn't that band a group made from other bands, one from 'Yes' or somethin' and I don't remember who else(?)
My roommate in college dated the sister of one of the band members. The were big Zep fans, apparently. There was also another very popular band called "The Sheiks" at that time, I have a tape with Zebra on one side, The Sheiks on the other. I think I'm going to have to give it a listen, haven't in at least 15 years...
~
Agree, think I have that on LP, going to look it up and give it a spin!
which I think was on that same album. They showed a lot of potential for being a great hard rock trio on that debut. I'm not sure why they didn't make it big - may have been bad timing with the video thing getting so huge around the same time and them looking like Average Joe's with mullets. I've never heard that whole album - how does the rest stack up to those good singles?
The whole album stacks up. I will be looking for the others also!
What’s nice about Zebra it that they were not one hit wonders. About every song they made was powerful and fun to listen to. I hear they still do gigs here and there, and been making money for hurricane Katrina victims. They’re from New Orleans Louisiana. If you get a chance, check out the first LP and the "La La Song" But all the songs are good and don’t really sound to 80'ish.The first two records are very good... I found out they have about 3 more... I'll be looking on ebay!
any of these songs will do for me. maybe throw in "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" EP by Don Henley. I know, I know... ;-)
Talking Heads and Pretenders restored my faith in intelligent new rock during the otherwise (for me anyway) entirely lame 80's.
agreed tho on my set the Stop making sense never gets lost..play swamp & pschyco killer all the time
Kayleigh - Marillion
Red Skies at Night - The Fixx
I Melt With You - Modern English
The Metro - Berlin
Tarzanboy - (somebody?)
Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
Kyrie - Mr Mister
Hairstyles and attitudes,
Are they connected?
Are styles we embrace a matter of taste,
Or values rejected?
Hairstyles and attitudes,
How do they relate?
How well do we use the freedom to choose
The illusions we create?Amazing how many songs off that album we can remember the lyrics 20 years later. I once saw them perform in the cafeteria at Northwestern U. in the late 80's, just standing there by the condiments with a guitar and a drum-machine. I don't think I've ever gotten that close to a name act since.
Sorry, there is no Timbuk 2. Except for Tiger Too.

Tarzan Boy was by Baltimora, an Irish group, I think.
Love that song! I have the LP, and believe it or not, its doesn't sound that bad almost 20 years later. Cheers!
I study nuclear science

was already sitting on the TT from last night.{yeah I know-put em away)My favorite tracks are Life is Hard and Just Another Movie.
"Life is Hard" is one of my faves too. Did this group ever release another LP? I don't know about you but my ears says that this one was recorded fairly well.Love these lyrics from "life is hard":
Can't buy happiness no matter what you do
Can't get to Heaven on roller skates
Can't take a taxi cab to timbuktu...The harmonica in this song is so cool...really adds to the whole theme...
My bad, I didn't mean to hog a deacade's worth of music. Of course, I should probably make it a point to return some back to LOST status. Need I bring up Thompson Twins again???
I remember as a little kid this song being unlike anything I had ever heard. It's still kinda cool.
Reminds me of the same year of "Mexican Radio" A catchy tune."I wish I was in Tijuana smoking Mexican marijuana"
At lease thats how I felt back then.
Anything by Talk Talk! Also, anything off Thomas Dolby's The Flat Earth.

Open Your Ears....
I remember that song.....have'nt heard it since the 80's so I'm going on memories but it was good none the less. One of my faves is "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Obsolute system buster!! Luv it.
Actually picked that one up at a Goodwill in FL, 12" single version in picture jacket, mint condition. Have played it a couple of times, pretty cool to find some of the 80's stuff like that!
That was a really creative band, highly underrated although they were chart-toppers in England. Second album had powerful songs like Rage Hard and Warriors of the Wasteland(how can you beat names like that!)
I loved that one! Great tune by one of the most influential undergound acts of all time. Thanks for bringing it up. Think I'll go listen to it right now...
