It seems a little quiet on MM is this normal?
Yep. The lower gain setting is designed for MM and HO MC carts with outputs down to 1.5mv. The high gain setting handles carts down to .15mv but retains the other setting's 47k loading. I've owned the PPH-100 and now have its successor, the ZPhono which is essentially the same but with the gain switching accessible from the rear panel.
IMHO, they are the best entry-level ( <$150) phono preamps around, not counting DIY kits like the Hagerman Bugle.

I find myself turning the volume almost all the way up on my amp when using the MM setting. Would something with an adjustable gain help like the Musical Surroundings Phonomena help. I think it just need a bit more gain, however the MC setting on the Parasound it a bit much at 61db.
