The Dorati-Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra is the one I grew up with and hence the one I'm most attached to. It's also a reasonably good one :)
I have one on London (Phase 4) by Sharples and the London Festival Orch., one by Reiner and the Chicago Symphony on RCA, and one by Gruner-Hegge and the Oslo Philharmonic Orch. on Camden. The 1812 is probably one of the most recorded compositions in history.
Issued in 1969 - have as a mid-price RCA Red Seal reissue (LSB-something-)- c/w Rachmaninoff: 3 Russian Folksongs, etc. New Philharmonia/Chorus/ EverythingThe recording is by PYE..and is spectacular - some of the best 'transient attack' on LP.
