Hi All
Was given a Shure V15 V cartridge (not sure which one. It just has the V on it and 004479 when you flip down the brush). I knew that Shure used to have a great stylus replacement program, but that seems to be gone now as they quoted me something like $225 for the replacement stylus.
Anyone know where to get a good replacement stylus for less? Is there a choice of stylus that is better or worse? Wondering whether it is even worth bringing back to life. WOuld it even like the ULM arm on my Dual 5000?
Thanks
Erik

Hello!
For a good price on this stylus, try this.

I have ordered from them and quite like them. I hope this helps.
That cart is probably THE best match you're gonna find, for the ULM arm on your Dual 5000. That is so....70's, ultra low mass arms! A highly compliant cart like that Shure is just the ticket, and based on the vintage my guess is you've got the early V15VMR, so take pains to get the proper replacement stylus; it's well worth it.
If you have the 1980's edition of the Type V or V-MR and not the recently discontinued VxMR then you'll want a VN5MR stylus. That was/is the best Shure made for the V. Never settle for a generic stylus if you can find an original.Check out these vendors: http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=vn5mr&scoring=p
Yep, forgot to use the link feature...heh.
ANy good tips for figuring out which vintage this one is?
Thanks

Is the stylus guard/brush assembly grey or a reddish-purple color? The older (and some might say better) Type V uses a grey-colored stylus guard.
Looks dark grey to me! Gunmetal, perhaps?

Yep, that's the older Type V. You want the VN5MR stylus. Still plenty of them around for about $120.
