I think it is from the late 60' The b/w photo is from a book dated 1972. I not sure that it was Mitchell who made it, I think I remember it was another guy.I had a used one once. Mostly I fell in love with it because it look very special. It was rather huge, could take a 12' inch arm. The dustcover had black acryl sides and could be hung on the back of the turntable,...... adding 8 inch more depht + a few more if you wanted to actually use it as a dustcover.
It was a step up for me back then, and the look at night at my then "japan style" period was good. (I was young then, studied philosophy and had my blue period. I'm quite normal today.....) But it did not play as well as a Rega 3 or something like that. The build quality was not very high. You could actually watch the springs move when the platter was turning. (Because of the 3 vinyl metal support stands)
I do not think I would take one home even for free today, but back then I used many hours to polish the acryl. One day the electronics sent out funny smells, and it ended its life in a garbage bin.
Regards pufff
I remember the turntable but not much detail. But it was an older design. The SME arm is an older one so I'd gyess the table is from the earlt to mid 70s.
I never knew IMF to make a turntable.I wonder if it's a pre-production prototype?
Looks kind of like J.A. Michell may have manufactured it - They were the only company I'm aware of in the UK who made turntables with this styling and who had this kind of machining capability at the time this turntable was likely made. And I'm making an assumption the turntable was made sometime around the production time period of the SME arm on the table.
nt
that leads me to believe that it was not imported or sold in the USA.
The only IMF products that show up are the speakers.
There doesn't seem to be much IMF info in the Archive, you might try searching the Vintage Asylum archive and or post a question as well
it certainly looks "High End".
