A few days ago, I got some helpful ideas (George Mann) in the forum on some tweaks to upgrade the performance of my Xpression. These were
1) Pro-ject speed box
2) Acrylic platter upgrade
3) Ringmat or similar mat
I looked for a replacement platter on Ebay, but I'm wondering if a platter upgrade for a Rega will really fit on the Xpression? The spindle hole seems bigger on the platters I've seen on Ebay and the Iron Audio site. Also, the tech rep for Music Direct said the Iron Audio platter would NOT fit a Pro-ject, that they were machine expressly for Regas (P2,P3,P25).
Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, they modified these platters to better fit the Rega's. however, a machine shop can easily make a filler out of metal, wood, Acrylic or even plastic. All you would need to do is take the platter and subplatter assymbly to them and tell them what you need.
I would bet that the Mat 1 would be an excellent, cost-effective upgrade to your table. At least one reviewer has given it high marks on an LP12's aluminum platter: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0205/bostonaudio.htmI have happily used the Mat 1 on my Nottingham Analogue Horizon for about 2 years now, and it takes my good table to a whole new level.
I did that on my NAD 533 and it improved things audibly. Later, I went with the Iron Audio acrylic platter.

Thanks. I ordered the Iron Audio acrylic mat and will give it a try. Makes sense to try this versus the acrylic platter since I will probably upgrade the TT at some point and then that upgrade would be a sunk cost versus the acrylic mat, which could be used with any new TT.
I am guessing VTA will have to be adjusted with the new mat. Will be my first attempt at this.
You may have to use a Michell record clamp with that mat to keep the record from slipping.
