in addition to being a great piece is a good low freq evaluator. when the kick drum and bass guitar start playing at the same time, boomy speakers obscure the difference between the two.
i too like the earlier work more, before michael mc donald became too full of himself.

I listened to these guys a lot in high school and college, and I also don't know why they weren't more popular, although they sold a lot of records. Maybe they weren't controversial enough, even with their name. I still like their earlier, folky-blues rock and later jazz-pop rock albums and put their records on every once in a while to bring back old memories.
It would bring back fond memories of sitting in the back yard for many of my neighbors. The house that my wife grew up in (in the hills above Santa Cruz) was purchased by one of the Doobies. We has since move back to the area and the Doobie is gone. But, some neighbors tell of some wonderful weekend afternoons enjoying there back yard amphitheater.
"Captain & Me" is one of my favorite albums too....and it sounds
pretty damn good as well. I especially like the way they recorded and mixed the drum kit(s). It's too bad that most of the good bands never get the recognition they deserve.I think I'll go throw it on right now.......

Those guys get dogged alot. I never quite understood why. A good solid band with great vocals, what's wrong with that?
