...I dont mean car stereo Jensen, but the big floorstanders & bookshelf speakers they made some 20 years ago. I wonder how inmates rate these old systems.....
Follow Ups:
Jensen's were one of the big sellers in my area. One thing I do remember about them is how unremarkable they sounded. I just remember them as the low end speaker to get if you couldn't afford to buy "real" speakers. Don't get me wrong there was far worse available at that time.Funny Jensen did go one to make some desent drivers. But their 80's speakers were generic and typical mass market types.
I wish I still had all those pamphlets I collected (and trashed in the 80's) of all those brands of speakers, RR, receivers. all have come and gone. And I had a BIG box of them too.
charles
the ones from the early-mid 70s.
They are
Model 1 8-inch duo-cone single driver (whizzer cone) $33
Model 16 Walnut veneer version of above $39Model 2 2-way with 8 inch woofer with direct radiating separate tweeter $54 (vinyl)
Model 17 Veneer version ($63)Model 3 2-way 10-inch woofer 3 1/2 inch cone tweeter veneer $84
Model 4 10-inch woofer three way, 5 inch mid Sonodome ultratweeter
($111)Model 5 12-inch woofer 2 5-inch mids and a Sonodome ($162)
Model 6 4-way 15 inch woofer, 8 inch mid, 5 inch upper mid and a Sonodome ($219)
Model 15 4-way 15 inch woofer and 2 sonodomes. ($396) 23 x 31 x 17
For the Jensen collectors from the period, the most interesting models are the 5 and 6. The 15 is too over the top.
Photos of all these in my '74 Olson Electronics catalogDavid
The model 4 was, to my ears, the best sounding of the bunch. Very nice sound, well balanced. The ones with 12 and 15" woofers were too bassy to suit me. There were also a couple of later high end Jensens. The model B was one. Looked great and measured well.
You need to go back much farther. Try a pair of G-610 Triaxials. Or try the H-510. This is the one I'm most familliar with. I own one. It was my fathers. I have only used it for mono but it is impressive within its limitations.
40-50 year-old jensens are another subject all together.
......I have never owned Jensen, but in my youthful days I'd hear folks either hate em or love em......I'd have to agree with ya on 40-50 year old Jensen though......I was recently amazed that jensen used to make a big duplex (in the 1940's/50's) not too much unlike Altecs famous 604......some audio buffs would argue who built the duplex first.....I believe it was Altec.
i have a original 12 incher from the 50's that i use for guitar caper. It was a Bell Howell 16mm speaker box.
I love the sound of it.
15 watts, 16 ohms job.
Tonefully.
