Opened up the mystery cabinets today to find single Allied Knight 15" 16 ohm blue/green speakers. Anyone familiar with these. Can a Fisher 800c drive these? 16ohms?
Follow Ups:
The 800c has a 16 ohm tap on the speaker terminal strip. Just move the wire (there may be two, one right and one left) coming out of the chassis over to the terminal marked "16", it should work fine. Mine is driving a set of stacked Advents right now and performs very well.
Do you have model numbers for the speakers? I have a 1967 Allied catalog that list two 15 inch speakers. One is model 615HC and the second is 835HC. Both are 16 ohm speakers. The 615HC was their flagship speaker and cost $69.95. The 835HC cost only $49.95. These were probably manufactured by Electro Voice for Knight. They are probably variants of the Electro Voice 15TRXB and the LT15.You should have no problem driving those if the amp likes a 16 ohm load. My 12TRXBs sound wonderful with my 3.5 watt Paramours.
I am envious.
Thanks for that info - picking the cabinets up soon. These are housed in extremely well built large homemade cabinets. I'll have the numbers then, but I think I remember 25 watts capability and some type of control pot on the rear of the cabinet. Speakers are like new.
