I've used my L-710's with a 430 and I think that's the best combo of all the 30 series HK's I've heard (330b,430,730 and 930).The damping factor of the 430 seems right for the 710's. The other 30 series work pretty well, but I think the 430 is a little sweeter.Let us know how the 430 works with the 810's.
Best of the season.
I have a 730 hooked up to a pair of newly acquired AR-2AX's and the sound is incredible...not bad for a $51.00 receiver. The phono stage on these receivers is damn good...I have a TD-160 hooked up and it is quite the package for hi-fi sound on a lo-fi wallet. My buddy just bought a 430 and it sounds wonderful....if we keep talking about these units they won't be inexpensive anymore....
ye keep it on a low down, can't wait to get it oh well long holiday break. My new project for the new year. I think i remeber the tuner being exceptionally well crafted, expecially on the 930, how does the 430 compare to it?
I have the 630 and the power amp section is good enought to use as a separate component. The tuner is quite decent and the preamp pretty good. The preamp of the 1060 is a very good and good enough to use as a separate component. I've wanted to get my hands of a 1060 to try it in lieu of the 630's preamp. Pull the preout/main in pins on each unit. Feed the tape output of the 430 into the tuner input of the 1060 and the preout of the 1060 into the power amp of the 430 and compare the preamps. If the amp in the 430 is as good as the 630 and preamp is about the same sonically, then I suspect you'll end up with better sound with the 1060/430 combo and possibly as good as many separates for a fraction of what they generally cost. The 630 does very well into 4 ohms while quite a few of the Marantz amps of the vintage of the 1060 had difficulty at 4 ohms so it may also be a consideration.
The H/K 430 is the bottom of the line of the twin-powered receiver models in that series, and it does NOT have pre-amp-out and main-amp-in capability. The 630, 730, and 930 models have this capability, though. The tuners in the 430, 630, and 730 are virtually identical, with the 930 having a bit better tuner section...albeit ALL of these have great little tuner sections! The 430 was conservatively rated at 25 wpc, the 630 at 30 wpc, the 730 at 35 wpc and the 930 at 45 wpc, based on factory specs published at the time of their introductions. The 630 and the 930 came out at the same time, but a couple of years later, the 430 and the 730 appeared in the line-up. When they showed up, the 630 was dropped from the line in favor of the 730 model...and the 930 remained at the top of the line. These were some of the best selling receivers in the WORLD at the time, with the 430 ONLY being outsold by the 330 model(the best selling receiver in the world, but NOT twin-powered). There is a REASON why these outsold similarly-rated receiver models by Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, etc., in their day. Listen to one, and you will quickly find out what that reason is! Keep in mind that one could buy a receiver model from Pioneer, Sansui, etc, with twice the power rating as a particular H/K x30 model, with more "bells & whistles" than the H/K, for about the same price...but these H/K models STILL outsold them!!
