... I think that they are excellent sounding tuners, still reasonably priced. I have an S-2000 and an S-3000 (both mono). Stereo IS highly over-rated, in terms of FM! :-) Is the 2200 AM-FM mpx? I cannae recall. You can find snippets of info several places. See link below, and also http://www.hifilit.com/hifilit/Sherwood/Sherwood.htm

Mark,
Is that a Bottlehead preamp I see in your rack? If so, how do you like it?
Well, I think "sort of" is the most correct answer. It's a Bottlehead Seduction phono preamp, which I like quite a bit.As it happens, I do have an unbuilt, original Bottlehead Seduction in the basement. I'd bought it for my father to build, but he demurred, so it reverted to my possession. Might have to build it someday.
I just powered it up (slowly on a variac) and all is good so far. It does have the optional MPX board and it seems to work fine (tunes both FM, and AM, in mono and stereo). Tuning eyes are good too. My antenna situation sucks, so I'm only pulling in the strong local stations. Sounds pretty good, although I don't have much to compare it to.I can't believe the condition this thing is in. It is mint with one exception - the orange film in front of the multiplex light slid down a little - so it's only half orange. Probably an easy fix - just need to pull it apart.
I assume that this is as reliable as any other piece of vintage gear . . .
The S-2200 was Sherwood's most expensive tube tuner and was designed for the brief era of AM/FM stero simulcasts just before the MPX standard. While it is most impressive in terms of build and number of buttons, the S-2100 ll and the S-5000 actually perform and sound a bit better. I do pair it with the matching S-5000 amp and rebuilt Ravinias speakers for a classic all vintage Sherwood system. BTW, the MPX is the same in board adapter as for the S-3000, The S-2100s (l,ll), S-4000 and S-5000 have built-in MPX adaptors.
Sorry, I meant the S-2000V and S-2000 lV, not S-5000 and S-4000, I have so many Sherwoods it does get confusing!
