In Reply to: Should I Use Hammond 193Q Choke If I live In Area With 220VAC ? posted by diyaudiophile on April 23, 2007 at 01:00:55:
The Q series is fine...right now I'm usinf the 193M on the 220v side with good results. The choke is ice cold to te touch. I suggest you first add the choke to the secondary of the isolation transformer. It will work fine with JR's filter and Al's R-C. Wire the choke to the primary side of JR's filter for best results. The choke will help damp the ringing of the capacitors a little more.

Dear Alan,Thanks for the valuable comment and suggestions.
Do you mean I should purchase two 193M chokes and to put one to the secondary of the isolation transformer and one to the primary side of JR's filter for best results ?
Thanks again for your help.
A single 193M is good for starters. Place the choke on the primary side of the JR filter at the iec socket. For a future upgrade you can look at adding another 193M to the primary side of the isolation transformer, assuming the JR filter is installed on the secondary. The trick to this type of filtering is to balance both sides of the equation. So if you have a choke on the primary side of the iso trannie, then a choke on the secondary would balance the circuitand create a very nice power conditioner. You may want to try the set up with and without the JR filter in the circuit. I prefer the sound of the choke compared to added RFI filters.
Dear Alan,Thanks again for your quick and valuable reply.
I had searched thru' the internet for supply source of the 193M choke. I got three companies that sell this choke. I had asked two of those companies for the shipping charge but so far no reply yet.
For the another one, the estimated shipping charge is around the cost of the choke.
So I will wait and see whether I can get the reply from the other two companies as the shipping charge is really expensive as I am living in Asia.
By the way, I cannot find any sources in Asia selling this choke.
You should e-mail Hammond for the distro information for your area. I don't have that kind of information.
