Hi,
Can someone tell me which 12AX7's are for the phono stages (looking at the amp from the front). I replaced all 4 with EH's but seem to have more hum than with the Chinese 12AX7A's. I notice that a lot of guys use different brands in the phono and line stages. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Larry.

I use Tungsram from about 1960 to 65. You will know if they are real by a metal tag on the inside of the tube, there is some good sources for them from Hungary on E-bay. I have tried alot in those spots, & settled on these. My most enjoyable amp. I would also concentrate on these smalleer signal tubes & such more than the el-84 type or what ever you are running, I just run el-84' that stay tough, then voice with the small tubes.
Thanks for the reply,
I am using Sovtek EL-84M's which I believe are the closest to the original 7189's. Fortunately, I prefer their sound to the quad of Ei's I also have. I will take your advise and search out some Tungsrams on ebay. This is my first tube amp since I was a kid and I love everything about it.

The first two looking from the front, number 1 and 2 left to right.
Thanks for your response.
Larry.
