Hmmm, I came across the above and Primaluna. However the Primaluna resembles the Cayin almost to perfection. Kinda confused now since I've been looking another integrated amp for a small setup, is the Primaluna brand a Cayin?Hmmm, Cayin is cheaper however I never heard them personally. The Primaluna sounds sweet, very musical. In the near future I am looking to do a small setup for a master bedroom and a personal gym, with monitor speakers and a decent tube cd player.
Follow Ups:
Primaluna is a modified and tweaked Cayin. Both start life with the same basic design, from the same manufacturing plant, with alot of the same parts.
Primaluna adds an autobias board, better quality tranformers and better quality discrete parts.
The end result is different but similar.
Best,
The only model we can compare would be this integrated, as the pre-amp, amps, monoblocs amps and the new CD player are ground up designs. The ProLogue Two is so successful we asked Spark to kill the TA-30 model to reduce confusion. There was no reason to re-invent the wheel and make a new chassis or basic ultra-linear circuit design, which is why so many of our models have the same metal work. Save that money and get better parts elsewhere.I would be happy to give you a full comparison if you guys want. But don't want it to sound like a commercial. You call it. Happy to explain it.
What you MUST know is this is a European product. It could be pulled from that factory and built elsewhere easily if we felt they were failing to live up to the standards we demand.Again...I can shed more light but it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable to do it on AA. One reason is I don't want to be a commercial. Two is someone will sling a few and I prefer to keep things factual,
best....

This is a very telling statement:"The ProLogue Two is so successful we asked Spark to kill the TA-30 model to reduce confusion"
Why would there be confusion unless there was a high degree of similarity ?
Due to reviews and posts that you have been kind enough to make, I understand the differences between the TA-30 and the Prologue-2. Based upon what I have read and seen- I stand by what I posted- they are very similar in that they start from the same point but take divergent paths to meet their objectives.
A Toyota Highlander SUV is a Lexus 350 SUV, without the name, wood trim, sound deadening material and premium price tag. Same origin, same foundation, different final execution to arrive at different market segements.
I do not doubt for a moment that the value you add may result in a better product that fully justifies it's (reasonable) price tag. But the bottom line seems to be that the Prologue 2 -is- a modifed TA-30.
Best,
No....they are both modified Dyna Stereo 70's.We would make no secret that the metalwork for the chassis is the same....but beyond that it more like saying a BMW 330ci is the same as an M3.
But PrimaLuna is way past that first model. Any product now is ground up PrimaLuna....which is why the sales success, low repair and high resale value exists.
Primaluna usually have auto bias, Cayin not, at least mine didnt...

But they were both manufactured by Spark. But the Primaluna was using design criteria by a western designer. I'm not sure that this was so for the Cayin. Don't know about the sonic's of the Cayin TA30 but operationally they are different. You will want to see if differences in the operational issues are important to you. Both are good products.
As an owner of a TA-30 for almost 3 years, i may be able to provide some help. I dug quite a bit on AA (and other sites) before I bought it. As far as I could tell (not having both amps side-by-side, mind you) the PrimaLunas use the adaptive auto bias board, and have a slightly different parts spec. I recall reading that the transformers are 'custom' in the PrimaLunas. Some other parts like caps are higher grade. As far as I could gather, the basic design aside from the autobias board is VERY similar. I've had the Cayin open several times to adjust the bias, and I'm always impressed by the parts quality and build quality for an amp that I payed $450 for, used.My Cayin has certainly proven its mettle, keeping up with a slew of upgrades without showing any hints if being a 'limiting factor' in my rig. of course, YMMV...
I have been researching Cayin and Primaluna, both on AA/Agon and Audiocircle, I cant find anybody that has a negative comment on both items. Personally, I dont buy new so I tend to research, listen/audition a product before making a decision. I am not a modder or a DIY type of guy but I like to get the best sound to my ears as possible and as affordable.
