The 'T7 is MISERABLE in SE circuits, as its harmonic distortion spectrum is skewed towards 2nd order. OTOH, the 'T7 is DANDY in PP circuits, where the extra 2nd HD mates very well with the cancellation of even order distortion products in the O/P stage. The resulting "waterfall" NET distortion spectrum is PLEASING to the ears.

That's like saying any screwdriver that won't work on all kinds of screws is a bad screwdriver!BTW, 1L6s don't do well in SE circuits either. Does that make it a bad tube? Not for a Zenith Transoceanic owner! It's the BEST tube for the job in that circuit.
A tube is just an ingredient in the sonic recipe. Not every piece of gear uses the same recipe, so the ingredients differ. Eli's post was spot-on!
