I just purchased an ARC SP6A and when I hooked up there's a low level "ssshhh" from the right channel independent of volume or the mode(stereo, mono, left, right and reverse); it's only the right channel. I ONLY checked it on the line outputs not the phono(I forgot!); tube or?? I'll put it back in later and check the phono stage; in the meantime, any direction for me to go?
Follow Ups:
It was the v4 tube. Thanks for the replies.
Steal the tubes from the phono section to see if goes away. Unless you have telefunkens in there, you can upgrade the tubes - great tubes for this unit, that cost almost nothing, ($4 each on ebay) are Shuguang 12ax7c.
Make sure the tubes are seated properly.Try switching the line stage tubes around (V4, V5, V6).
V1 (phono) and V6 (line) need to be a low noise tube.
If the noise does not change then there may be a problem with the preamp's line stage circuitry and unless you are experienced, you need to find a good technician.
You can find a schematic at the ARC Database,.
