They don't seem to excel at anything other than a very natural sound across the spectrum. Voices and instruments are startlingly life-like.I've plenty of tubes that do certain things better but perhaps none that are as solid from top to bottom.

I love both the black and gray plate RCA 5963 tubes. Nothing I've tried can provide the solid image that these RCAs can. Bass with the 5963 is as good as it gets in the 12AU7/ECC82 family. Thanks to Dennis Boyle of Chimera Labs for turning me onto these.
They are a solid, competent tube for the Cary CD 303/300. They are not as slow and low-rez as the later gray plate RCA 5963.
I've been using them in my preamp for years and think they sound great. For NOS, they are unbeatable bang for your buck.
