Hi folks,
I think it may be time to re tube my system. Some of the magic has dissapeared.
Poweramp-Velleman K-4000(JJ E34L tubes)
Preamp-Countepoint sa3.1(Trying some 6bq7a tubes in place of 6922)
Phono stage-Seduction kit c4s full mods(Old amperex 6dj8 bugle boys)
Speakers are JBL-L220.
Turntable-modded Lenco L-70.The JJ E34L were nos, about 10 years old when I got them, and I have put about a year of heavy use on them.I keep them biased around 30-31ma.
I am considering the Sed wing "c" for the Velleman. And not sure what tube to try in the Seduction and Counterpoint. My goal is to get my vinyl sounding much better. As it can sound stunning with good source material.Cartridge is a Denon 103r and Origin live OL1 arm.Stepup is a Rothwell mc trannie,(100ohm fixed)
I know there are a lot of loaded questions here, but any advice concerning tube upgrades or anything else would be great!
Follow Ups:
I think that the JJ EL34s are a weak link. For my money, I would try some Siemens. They can be had at a reasonable price at www.angela.com. I'm not a huge fan of the Amperex 6DJ8s (I know a lot of you are!). I like the Telefunken 6922s and the Siemens CCa or 6922.
I don't use EL34, but I would change those first and see where you are at for sound. If you liked the amperex 6DJ8, I would look at some Amperex 7308's, My favorite 6922 is an Amperex 6922 PW but I only use one in a DAC so cost is easier to swallow. I did like my 7308's in a Bat cd player.
Go ahead and get the SED Winged "C" EL34's they are very dynamic with great extension. Then try the Amperex 6922PQ to complete the picture. Enjoy!
