Came across what appear to be older Sovtek stock, unknown year, faded red white and blue boxes with a "star" graphic in both 12 ax and EL 34s. Was the older stock equally unexceptional until the advent of the LPS, or was there value to be had?Cheers
Follow Ups:
I keep a pair of those Sovtek 12AX7WA tubes for troubleshooting...no more, no less. The pair I have sound kind of grainy...but they have come in handy from time to time.
An unexceptional tube. Just a generic low dollar tube replacement in guitar amps for musicians on severe budget limitations. The Sovtek 12AX7LPS is 'light years' performance wise above the older Sovtek.
What Jimmy said! The LPS, the GT "Mullard clone", the Tung-Sol reissue, even the economical 12AX7EH - all blow away the old Sovtek stuff.
Cool, as I suspected, Thanks, I'll invest elsewhere, like some good cheap EI, or LPS.
