I was told that a 6H23 is a direct replacement for a 6922. Has anyone tried/compared these two tubes? I was told that it (6H23) was a military grade and was just a bit more robust with a better build quality.
Follow Ups:
The 6h23 or 6n23 (same tube) was the Soviet era clone of the 6922. It is a direct replacement for the 6922. The only valid comparisons would be between brands/manufacturers and vintages since they are electrically the same tube. My personal favorite 6h23's are made by Voskhod from the 1970's & 1980's. I do not care for the ones made by Reflektor, but some folks prefer these to the Voskhods. Whatever floats yer boat I guess. The basic grade of the 6h23 is the 6h23-pi. I use the notation pi because I do not know how to make the Greek symbol pi with the ASCII characterset. The other commonly available type is the 6h23-EB. This is a ruggedized, low vibration, long life version. This is typically the one I am told that the Soviet military used. In the right application the 6h23 can be an outstanding performer. I use them in the phono section of my preamp. They have oodles of gain and are quiet as a stone.
I've used the 6H23-EB version from Voshkod, 1982 vintage with my C-J 16LS2. Very linear, strong but not over-empahsized bass. Doesn't have the cachet (or quite the finesse) of the NOS giants like Amperex, Siemens, Telefunken, et al. but a very competent tube.

Tonally I find them similar to, if a tad warmer than old Sovteks, dead quiet and very rugged (I've had a Quad in the SP10 for years with no noise or failures). Probably not a tweekers first choice if they are trying to may big tonal changes though.
Yes, they are replacements or alternative named or whatever for 6922...Do not assume though that 6H23 (or 6N23?)are necessarily better than 6922 tubes. I think that to some extent it is just a label...there must be variability in each group of labeled tubes.
FWIW, some of the best tubes that I've had in my AI Mod 3a pre have been "6H23 Russian Military" tubes. I'd worry though that this reputation might have led to some relabeling of plain old Sovtek 6922s.
