I just tried the Nos 12ax7 Tungstram tubes which I bought from ebay. I noticed that there was a slight static coming through one of the speakers. It sounded like a faint static but comes out intermittenly. When I change tubes, the static goes away. Can I do anything to the tube to fix this or do I simply have a bad tube? Thanks.
Follow Ups:
Try cleaning tube pins. If still producing static after that, the tube is most likely bad.
Thanks Jimmy. What's the best way to clean? Alcohol?
Just take the tube out and put it in several times to scrape away any corrosion of the pins and socket. If you want to get fancy you can treat the pins and sockets with a protective hight temp lubricant like DetoxIt.
