I've had some recent bad luck with JJ TESLA KT88s and NOS AT7 and AX7 in in Jolida 502B (modified by parts connexion)..like within two weeks a preamp/power tube going, then, a power tube.. so im alittle gun shy wit tube rolling at the moment. I have the stock EH6550, EI preamp tubes and EH power driver tubes in.. my speakers are Rega Juras. I really liked the JJ TESLA KT88s, but at matched quad prices Im reluctant. Any thoughts on affordable and reliable replacement tubes that sound great. The Juras are detailed without harshness and have more bass than a small two way ave any right to have. can be a bit boomy at times.. I guess recommendations for tube dealers that you have also found to be the most reliable i terms of the quality of their tubes. I know there is no guarantee with tubes since they are delicate. I like the current tubes.. but I loved my JJ Tesla, Brimar, Mullard combo.. just the cost of ownership too high. Jolida checked out the 502B and said all is well with it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your helpful posts.
I'll go one more round with upgrading tubes.I spoke with Jolida quite a bit and they were upfront stating that the KT88s sound great in the 502B, but in their expereince there is a 30-50 percent fail rate with the KT88s and NOS tubes, which is why they ship with the tubes they do. The stock tubes dont sound bad. They sound good. The upgraded tubes sounded different and better. But Jolida swears by the 6550 tubes from a reliabilty standpoint.
Im inclined to think I had a couple unfortunate rounds with some weak tubes since the amp tested out just fine. Im keeping my fingers crossed. OR heading back to SS.
I have used The Tube Store, and I would recommend them. Unfortunately, I recently traded out a Jolida 302B that kept eating tubes and fuses. I hope you have better luck with your 502B.
one good place to get tubes is triode electronics. I've always had good dealings with them. Not sure if Uncle Ned is still there or not but either way they are worth considering. Decent prices too.roN
Of the current production I've tried I'm happiest with these from Tube Depot: http://www.tubedepot.com/si-kt88-98.htmlAfter that would be the Penta KT88SC Shuguang's, the EH-KT88s and then the stock tubes. All are cheaper than the JJ/Tesla's.
Also the Sovtek 12AX7 LPS are what I have settled on with the EI-12AT7 Elite Gold's.Also you might try moving the speakers toward the back walls. That lowers the bass response here anyway. YMMV.

I completely agree with Jerry regarding the Shuguang KT88-98 from Tubestore. They are my favorite tubes out of SED, and EH (haven't tried JJ yet) and they are a great bargain at less than $100 for a matched quad.Close second are the EH which are also about a $100. I've had great luck buying KT88s from the Tubestore (not a bad tube yet).
