In Reply to: Are these 6SN7GTB tubes good? posted by pastito on October 02, 2004 at 11:11:11:
The ones on the left - the coin base - are horrible, worse than the infamous Sovtek. Worst 6SN7 ever made. The ones on the right look like early 60's O-getter GE - not bad, not the best - I prefer Sylvania GTB's from this era if it has to be a GTB.

Well I will use them as testing tubes then!
It is educational to have average to poor tubes around to compare.
Robert,What 6SN7's Do you prefer. I'm currently using a Sylvania GTA in my pre and I am enjoying it but I'm new to tube rolling. Anything you would suggest and why. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Sylvania 6SN7GTA are great - especially if pre-1960's. Very good value.A lot of people tend to be snobbish about some 6SN7's that aren't hyped & overpriced, but to me, there are lots of very good sounding bargain 6SN7's still available - 50's to mid 60's Sylvania GTB's are pretty good, pre-1960 GE GTB's are perfectly fine, 1950's GE 6SN7GTA's are simply killer, and if you can find them - 1950's RCA side getter GTA's are also very good.
Robert,Thanks for the post. I really am enjoying my system with the 6SN7 pre in it. It took it to a whole new level. Its' the first piece of equipment I have put in my system and new it was perfect from the start. BTW, is there a way to determine if the Syl 6SN7 is pre 1960. Thanks for your help and time.
