http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3284&item=5721968440&tc=photoThis mono amp sounds one hell of a lot like the "Swedish Navy Amplifiers owned by the guy that played sax on.... yada yada yada." that were listed on A-gon awhile ago with the ludicrous $80K price w/$250 for an audition... I LOVED that part.... sor Looks like possibly UTC iron, maybe Freed... maybe not. Likely a LOUD, not very detailed, "gauze-tone" amp like some of those theater amps w/ 12 xformers in the signal path. Probably a great subwoofer amp, though. I doubt the reserve is even 2.5% of the cost of "Bozo the Audiogon Clown"'s price! Still, might be some damn nice iron.
Follow Ups:
and he replied that he was presently working on a deal with a buyer from Japan, but he never supplied the pictures.
...it would seem to me that IF the individual really wanted to seel this amp he/she would included pics of the transformer tops and markings at the front of the amp. It does not look to be transformer coupled, but it does have regulation of the output screens and probably some af/driver tube(s). It could be decent, yet I have similiar high output amps that are frequency limitted by design. Again it would be easier to tell if the writing on the amp was visable (for example I have a pair of NOS or barely used military amps that clearly state the the bandwidth on the iron, which is something like 100Hz to 10KHz. This may not be an issue here, but my suspicion is raised wjhen I see a rebuilt amp and no mention of sound quality.
The only bigger idiot than someone who would pay that for any amp,(let alone that one,) would be the idiot that paid 250 to listen to it. My thought is that he probably got so much lol email that he made up the japanese "buyer"
I also didn't believe in the Japanese buyer. While I have little doubt that there are some heavyweight hitters in Japan that will spring the big bucks for unique and special audio items, I would be quite surprised if they were hot on the trail of that unit.
The manner in which he attempted to market it would turn off any serious purchaser with that type of money.
