I just bought a pair of these triodes... I also have a wide
assortment of 5751s and 5y3 rectifiying valves... I have been told
these triods are almost exactly like a 6L6 but filament voltage
is 2.5 Volts @2 amps.I might try building and amp around this stuff... what do you guys think?
On the bottle of the triod says:

and completely unlike a 6L6!In my opinion, it's probably not worth fooling around with as an ouput device...however, it makes a *very* fine front-end tube. [As Ed indicates] it's sound is not on the lush side of things - it'll mate best with a warmish-sounding output tube.
I've settled in on about 390-440 v on the plate with a 910 ohm R(k).
Filaments are 6.3 v @ approx 3 A; data follows:
I found the spec sheet. i think I'm gonna change these for a pair
of RCA 6L6 and use those instead. Maybe I could use 12AX7 as drivers
and 6L6 as output tubes. Is this a better idea?I would like to build a class A, SE triode amp.
Here is the spec sheet:
Forget 6L6 - boring, everyone and their brother has been-there-done-that, the good ones are expensive, and it's still not a triode!use the HK24s as front end for something cool like 45, 845, GM70, etc. HK24 has enough nuts to drive a big output tube, plus enough gain you can do a 2-stage amp. Jim Dowdy has a ripping (or so I have heard) 3c24-> GM70 amp which kicks ass. Something like that is going to be WAAAAY more interesting to build/listen to than some ho-hum, boring, circuit-from-the-50s-that-sucked-even-then yawner of an amp with such overused tubes as 12ax7 and 6l6. IMNSHO of course. ;-) The interesting tubes are not the ones that everyone else uses.
I might keep these triods, but since I am new to this, I will
need schematics to build such an amp.I will look for a decent output tube and then ask for help!
my goodness man, how in the hell do these things stay under the radar do you suppose?of course I have my own set of favs-to-be...

oops, sorry to spill the beans. still, there's plenty of the exotic transmitting tubes left to play with - demand seems low overall for them. A few are harder to get lately, 75TH/TL, etc. ;-)
A lot like the others in that family, 3C24, 75TL, etc. nice sound, a bit edgy but not really bad. Not lush.nothing like a 6L6, really (which isnt' even a triode).
You could build an amp around these, but they are more suited to be driver tubes. Jim Dowdy has worked with them a lot.
