Does anyone know how wide is the frequency extremes for the Reynaud Twin? and/ or for the spendor S3/5 or S2/3?
I am shopping and curious about their differences.
I dont think I can hear much of anything above 16 kHz anyway
I've heard the Reynauds make it to the 40s, but almosteveryone claims that.
Thank you,
Follow Ups:
Accoding to recent tests done for me, the Spendors are down 4 dB at 20 hKz. Don't know about Twins. Harbeth HP3's, the third ace in that deck, are down 2.6 dB at 20 hKz. Subjectively, highs are not an issue with the 3/5's, if that's your concern. It's a very well balanced, natural sounding speaker overall, with a rich low end - that is, 63 hz to 80 hz or so.
I have Spendor 3/5s and and highs are respectable. Low bass is missing, but what do you expect from a box that size? By the way, it's not "Do they produce 20 kHz?" but "How many db down at 20 kHz are they?" Different question. Subjectively, I would say the spendors may be down a db or so at 20 kHz. Really nice QUALITY of sound in mids and highs though, especially from such a little box.
Hi Greg,
I too have an S3/5. What amp do you drive them with ?Which speaker stands are they perched on?
Thanks,
I currently use a LFD Mistral SE integrated and some no-name cheapie stands (when I don't shamefully plop the little guys on a deep shelf/mantle) in a fairly small room, Nordost Solar Wind bi-wire speaker cables, cardas cross interconnects. I've heard them on other systems with an Anthem 2s or an Bryston b-60 amp, and better stands and more expensive cables. Mine sounds slightly richer, but maybe less detailed, but the stands are usually too close to the back wall (most rear-ported speakers need not apply) for best openness, a limiting factor for sure. The stereo lives around my family; I don't live around my stereo. I can't compare them to the Reynaud twins, which other folks say are very good indeed. I have compared them directly to older model LS3/5a's, which I once owned. Personally, I like the 3/5s slightly better. They also seem to be more forgiving of poor placement, and really do seem to disappear.
...a dealer of theirs I like, eaudionet.com, says more like 50 t0 55 hz or so, all else being equal, unless you're talking about more than something beyond 8 db down.I hear people say the RTS-3's go relatively flat to the 40's also, which I find hard to believe.
Now, maybe Verios would, but they are a bigger box and different transmission line than the Twins.
