I recently purchased a pair of Kharma Ceramique 2.0's. Kharma sells a base for these speakers for $1500 a pair. Since this is way outside my budget, I was wondering if their is a cheaper alternative. I am currently using the standard spikes that come with the speakers.
Follow Ups:
I have a pair of the 2.0s and I love them. Stands, or mechanical isolation, for the 2.0s is an interesting topic. Interesting in that when Kal Rubinson reviewed them in Stereophile, he did not mention using stands; I believe this may have effected his impression. The Kharma stands are expensive and probably worth it, but I never tried them. I initially used DH Squares (try JCAudio.com for access if you want to) which are cheap and easy. Even more importantly, they really come close to eliminating the problem Mr. Rubinson noted in and about 400 Hz. I later placed Ensemble Honey Plates, with the DH Squares, under these 110 pound monoliths with a pronounced benifit for the entire soundstage and bass realism. The footprint for the Honey Plate is just a bit larger than the speaker and that was an issue for me. (I had used the Honey Plates under my amps and thought they might work for the speakers too.) My flooring is plywood on joist construction. I hope this might help, Jim.
Stands were not offered to me. If they are essential, they should have been, at the very least, mentioned as an option. BTW, the big Kharma at CES had stands and the same suck-out, fwiw.
Thanks for the post Kal and mention of the suckout with the stands. Jim.
Try the Black Diamond Racing Cones with them. They work excellent with the speakers.Trevor
Trevor, thanks for the info. Where can I find these cones?
