I am glad you had the guts to dislike these. Until now, I read reviews that pretty much paint the speakers as flawless. One chap kept stating they are hands down better than any speaker under $20k.
Given the monopole ribbon drivers, and limits of bass response, I found that impossible to believe.
I wanted to hear them for the hype, but now that I have seen more than a few brave soulds and thier dissenting voice, I guess the Newforms might not be perfect after all...not to everyone anyway.

So it takes guts to form a preference? I think everyone just needs to STFU about these speakers, pro or con. It's getting old and the great majority of the posts are useless rhetoric.

So it takes guts to form a preference? I think everyone just needs to STFU about these speakers, pro or con. It's getting old and the great majority of the posts are useless rhetoric.Oh? Actually, it mostly takes patience to read the posts of someone who responds the same way whenever someone says anything negative about the Newforms. A search on planar asylum for your posts in general, and your responses to someone like MikeCh in particular, reveals your agenda quite clearly.
As for the rhetoric, the original poster provided an in-depth review, which I found quite useful. Far more useful than your snide comments, anyway.
...reveals your agenda quite clearly.I found the review that starts this thread quite fine and it's a level headed report of a users experience with the speakers. I have no objection to it whatsoever. Apparently by stating that I have an agenda you think I am out to harass people who do not like these speakers. You are quite mistaken. Like you, I found the review contains information that might be useful to another reader and this is the type of information that needs to be encouraged whether the person liked the speakers or not. The only thing I can critique about the review is the postscript: John Meyer was kind enough to contact me and offer to purchase the speakers for what I paid in addition to paying for return shipping. Although I appreciate his offer, I have a sale pending. If the speaker is highly flawed, why sell it to someone else who will get dissatisfied by finding the same flaws? Won't this cause more grief to the seller if the buyer becomes dissatisified to the point of wanting a return? Why not just send them back to newform, provide feedback that the product is not satisfactory, and recieve their full refund? Something is odd there.
As you can see from Lou's and MikeCh's posts, the polarization of this newform situation is quite severe and reaches unreasonable and unuseful levels of debate. I've used magneplanar MMG's and newform 630's in the same system and room. Since the focus of this debate is on the 645's which I've not heard, I'm willing to acknowledge that there may be a possible driver integration problem with the 645's due to having multiple drivers in a large array. The 630 is a simpler design and my sonic impression does not correlate with having bloated bass nor an unfocused ability to image. However, the problem could also be in the setup as the newforms do lose image focus if your ears are below the horizontal plane of the ribbon tweeter structure. I have nothing to object to if the information presented is presented in a fashion to inform others rather than to reinforce ones ego by attacking someone else or to provide self reassurance for making a purchase decision.
If you really want to know about my agenda, I hope you'll take the time to read this post. I tend to agree with the points raised by fear3000/felix and I'm in a small position to help reinforce those points. The type of recent highly polarized debate I've seen raised about the newforms isn't productive or informative to the reader. That's why I want those people to STFU because the debates become 95% about personality rather than providing informative debate points.

Tom, you shouldn't try to squelch the enthusiasm I have for this great speaker. If you haven't already realized, the Newform Research speakers are probably the best available sub $20,000 speakers available on the market. Just the other day while I was at the supermarket a couple in front of me at the checkout was saying the same thing. I told them that with a few simple modifications they could transform their speakers into cost no object world-beaters. They of course didn't believe me but that's their problem. I'm sure most here agree with me and quickly dismiss their uninformed opinion.
What speakers do you own?
ROTFLMAO.
TOM[s] you are right. I understand everyone gets enthusiastic. I was impressed that someone dares print that he doesn't care for an audio product, because no matter how that person states the case, they know they are going to get flamed by someone.
Subject dropped,...by me anyway.
I already answered your question.Tom §.
