Having recently updated my amps, now my old speakers have abruptly decided to die on me (naturally). I was planning to buy new ones anyway, but not for a while, so it’s kind of caught me on the hop. Casting around for something second-hand to use in the interim, I've found a pair of monitor-style boxes from a company called "Studio Acoustics".The speakers themselves look pretty reasonable: Two 4-inch drivers and a tweeter (don't know what brand but all appear to be fairly decent) in a d'Appolito array, boxes are solid MDF, well made, with good quality binding posts. Cones, veneer et.al are all in good condition. Box is about two and a half feet high with a small footprint, suitable for low stands. Rated at 8 ohms, only one set on inputs (not bi-wireable).
Haven’t plugged these in and listened to them yet (the electronics in the store are pretty crap), so I'm now trying to find any info on this brand. The model type is Studio Acoustics 5A1 5T. Has anyone heard them or heard of them or the company? Scavenging for 'Studio Acoustics' on the net comes up with a Studio Acoustics company that manufacture plastic (outdoor) speakers for your garden cast in the shape of rocks or garden gnomes or some such Goddamn thing - not what I'm looking for, and hopefully not the same company.
ANYONE HEARD OF STUDIO ACOUSTICS 5A1 5T??
Any responses would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Sattler in Melbourne.

I am very inclined to agree with RAYDOG - steer clear of them.I may confusing them with something else, but I may have seen the name before. Where did you see them? At a pawnbrokers perhaps? There are plenty of decent-looking cheap, nasty speakers available in Australia. I think its our version of the white-van scam.

Fair enough. Time to keep looking.Thanx for the input.

My experiance has been when a large group of audiophiles [who obsess over this stuff] don't know the brand your talking about, it's usally for a good reason. Look for other speakers.
