Anybody ever compared the two of these? I sure would be curious to hear any opinions of how these two might stack up against each other. Anybody?

Funny, I went through this same exercise with these same two subs about 6 months ago. I never heard either but based my decision upon reviews only. My take based upon regurgitating multiple reviews was:The ACI more more natural sounding
The Velodyne was more mechanical
Both lacked any noticeable distortion, which is good.I bought the ACI Titan II and I love it. Of course, part of my decision was based upon the fact I bought some Emeralds and Sapphire III's to match. :-)
I have both, the Velodyne is sitting upstairs in a closet now, does thant answer your question? The Titan is amazing and completely disappears sonically. Everyone swears the bass is coming from the mains and they think the Titan is an end table or something because of it's cherry finish all around. Get the Titan.
And the winner is: ACI TITAN by a knockout! And if you are into DIY the TITAN II is $599. I odered my kit several weeks ago. It arrived in excellent shape in less than a week. ACI is well known for their customer service, and "after the sale" courtesy. Could not be happier . . . highly recommended.
Oh, and yes the sound is awesome; very musical and able to integrate with a wide variety of systems. And is does double well for an HT sub.
The Velo may play as low/loud however, it is simply outclassed by the Titan. The Titan also carries a five star rating on audioreview.com, check it out.
Hope this helps

I am trying to get some info on the Titan but can't find a website for ACI. Do you know if they have one and what it is? Thanks!

My ACI Titan II LE is far superior to the Velodyne HGS-12 that I tried, even though I was able to place the HGS-12 in a more optimal position, because of its smaller size. I don't know if the HGS-12 I tried was fully broken in, however. It did take my Titan II LE quite a while to stabilize, but it sounded very good after just a couple of hours.
Its size requires that I place the Titan II LE in my living room about 2.5 feet in front and to the right of my main speakers, but it still itegrates marvelously: all the bass seems to come from the mains.
I can't imagine a better sub than the Titan II LE for music. I've had it since spring and it just sounds better and better. I did listen to a number of Velodynes in store demos over the last couple years. Some of the demos were quite good, many were not. I suspect that the HGS-12 might play louder than the Titan II, but I really doubt it would sound as good.
After roommate gets his Titan II LE in, will be able to tell you but for now have only heard the HGS-12. The HGS is smaller for sure, nice outer finish, and sounds quite musical and deep. Slightly localizeable but the room setup wasn't the best and I don't believe it was fully broken in. Also heard the SPL 10 but wasn't as impressed.. it's fairly musical but not quite enough for HT (if you're using for dual purpose) and I heard it bottom out a couple times in U-571.The HGS was quite musical, but again I can't give that much of a fair comparison without buying it. Best musical subs I've heard so far were the REL's but they were set up better and were broken in.
